Hello to all ; more. Rolf Mützelburg (June 23, 1913 in Kiel - September 11, 1942 in the North Atlantic with 29 years)!
Kplt. Rolf Mützelburg joined the submarine force in October 1939, after two years of service aboard minesweepers. After being in charge of U 10 (June 10 to November 28, 1940), he received his first active service experience as Kommandanten-Schüler in U 100 under Schepke. He commissioned U 203 in February 1941. On patrols in the Atlantic, off the east coast of the United States and the Caribbean, sank 19 ships and damaged another three (Rohwer, 1998).

the photo was taken on the return to Brest after the seventh patrol that ended on July
29, 1942. Mützelberg would only have 2 months more of life. In September 1942,
during one of his reckless jumps from the conning tower to the sea, broke his skull when
the boat rolled between the waves and hit one of the ballast tanks, dying the next day.

Joined the Kriegsmarine in 1930, Many of his Crew were already at sea in submarines when he entered U-boat school in 1940.
31.07.1940 - 24.09.1940 At the disposal of the commander of the U-boats.
25.09.1940 - 10.11.1940 At the disposal of the 7th U-Flotilla, Kiel / St. Nazaire.
11.11.1940 - 16.04.1941 Commander of U 59.
17.04.1941 - 20.05.1941 familiarization for U 402 at the U-Boote Ostsee, Kiel.
21.05.1941 - 13.10.1943 Commander of U 402.
13.10.1943 Killed in the middle North Atlantic, with the sinking of his boat U 402.
As commander of U 402 Siegfried von Forstner was credited with the sinking of 14 ships for a total of 70,434 gross register tons (GRT), further damaging three ships of 28,682 GRT and sinking one auxiliary warship of 602 GRT.
Von Forstner received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 9 February 1943

Gert Hetschko was born on June 8, 1913 in Wilhelmshaven. His father was a Major a.D. (retired) in Fürth in Bavaria. Hetschko attended high school in Fürth and spent the Abitur there in March 1933. In April 1933 he joined the Reichsmarine as an officer candidate. After circumventing the normal activities of the period of instruction, including services aboard the Gorch Fock and the Cruiser Karlsruhe (around the world) he graduated as Leutnant z.S. on October 1, 1936, being promoted to Oberleutnant z.S. on June 1, 1938. He then completed the training course in the U boat school and between June and October 1940 he worked as Adjutant in the 2. U-Flotille in Wilhelmhaven. From December 1940 to May 1941 he served as a Guard Officer (Wachoffizier) at 7. U-Flotille in Kiel. From May to June 1941 he completed the commanders course at 24. U-Flotille (Memel).
While this was happening on October 30, 1939, the work order Nr. 284 (U 453 a Type VII C) had been placed at the Deutsche Werke, Kiel. The keel was laid on July 4, 1940 and she was launched on April 30, 1941. Both destinations were crossed here, since the now Kapitänleutnant Hetschko, after completion of the course was appointed commander of the brand new U 453 on June 26 of 1941. A particularity in that there was no familiarization time (Baubelehrung *), since on the same day of its designation the U 453 entered service in the Kriegsmarine.
Shortly after, performing night navigation exercises in the Bay of Kiel, the U 453 rammed and sank a small ship that served as a floating beacon. During the investigation, Hetschko, in his defense, said he noticed the ship on time and gave the order "all port" to avoid a collision, but the steering wheels got stuck and the U boat rammed his victim. The court, which investigated this incident, found the commander guilty and removed him from his post. As punishment, Hetschko was sent to a new training, since they considered that their qualifications were insufficient to entrust the ship and the crew to him in a combat situation. Known for his ingenuity, Otto Ites commented on the sinking of the ship as follows: "At least he could sink his first 200 tons."
Thus they exchanged positions with Oblt.z.S. Egon-Reiner Freiherr von Schlippenbach and Gert Hetschko went on to command U-121 (Type II B) until March 1942. He was then assigned to the Torpedo Test Command until he had a new opportunity and was appointed Kommandantenschüler at U 89 (Korvettenkapitän Dietrich Lohmann). With this U boat he sailed from La Pallice on April 25, 1943 (5th patrol) and sank with the ship and all aboard on May 12, 1943.
(*) Baubelehrung - it was normal for the commander to be appointed about four weeks before the launching.

Hetschko, who had served as watch officer on U 37 and later on U 52, joined the commanding officer training course, that had already started on 27 April 41, somewhat belatedly on 3 May 41, as his boat returned from patrol only on 1 May 41. Anyway, the course was finished on 26 May 41 and Hetschko was appointed to building # 284 at DWK Kiel on 4 June 41 for familiarizsation. Hence, he had more than three weeks time to learn about his new command. This was quite normal then.
