Hello,

I think it's U 66, one of the first typ IXc with a lion head inside a circle and inside a black diamond.
In this picture, the submarine is so far to see the lionhead, but we see the black diamond.

Best regards,

Lionfish

Hello

Answers are:

First

Korvettenkapitän Karl-Heinz Moehle
Korvettenkapitän Reinhard Hardegen
Kapitänleutnant Horst von Schroeter

Second

Leutnant zur See Käding Walter

Third

I found two crew members awarded with DKiG, but I don`t know for what they receive it.

Obermaschinist Seigel Hans
Obermaschinist Zölk Rudolf

They all survived the war.

Rgds

PS. I think, the boat on your picture is U 127

Sorry, meant Albrecht Achilles! Have no way of finding out how Gold Cross was won, have read interrogation report on 66 but nothing there!Hartmann also awarded Gold cross. Are you sure boat is not 127? Diamond was UAK symbol, just a thought as I cannot see the Lion's head!

Yes, I am sure it is U 66. I picked up some items sold by Frohlich's family some time ago, including a photo of Frohlich, a few other photos, and a hand drawn map of all of the combat patrols of U 66. It is generally considered accurate that Werner Frohlich was awarded the DKiG for actions related to the Avenger attack from the USS Card on U 66 and U 117 which severely injured Markworth (shot through the stomach) and killed the I.W.O and killed or wounded the II.W.O along with, I think, 8 other members of the crew. U 117 was sunk in the attack. The boat's doctor and XO from U 117 survived because they had transferred over to U 66....and is probably the only reason Markworth survived!

When the order came to abandon the boat when under attack by USS Buckley, it is said that Frohlich didn't hesitate and was one of the first men to jump on the foredeck of the destroyer...He was lucky to not have been shot!!

and along with Frohlich who was awarded the DKiG.................You are correct!!

They all survived the war.

Do you happen to know why Olschewski was awarded the Knight's Cross?

Next question to you!!!

Hello,

If it was U 127 with UAK-zeichen, it must have also the yellow band of training, isn't it ?
But i didn't see it on your picture.

There were five manufacturers of electric motors. Who were they?
