Regards.
Uboataces.com states that U 666, a boat which had a personal emblem as opposed to the emblem of the captain's graduating class as many u-boats did, was sunk on February 11, 1944. According to the link below from uboat.net, this is disputed and the attack by aircraft alleged to have sunken U 666 was "probably against a non-sub target". It's neither here nor there in regards to the subject of this thread, but I thought it was worth noting due to the, uh, uniqueness of this u-boat's number. Also uboat.net says they have just one emblem for this boat, rather than two shown on uboataces.com for this boat.

http://www.uboataces.com/ref-insignia53.shtml#U-666 (notice a second emblem regarding "Satan")

George, this emblem was also re-used on U 862 in her voyage to the far east, many of whose crew came from U 251.

May I request if anybody here has photos of the emblems for U 78 please?

Would that be a dragon?

Hello

My opinion :
U 251 was U-Boat Type VIIC.
U 862 was U-Boat Type IXD2.
George's photo shows U-Boat Type VIIC belonging to the 11th flotilla.
U 251 emblems :

Then I think that it is about U 251 belonging to the 11th flotilla between 1 Jul, 1942 and 31 May, 1943.
Here is a photo of U 251 (Narvik in 1942) :

Hello Kiwikid
In Georg Högel's book (Embleme Wappen Malings), the emblem of U 78 is presented like this :

I have never found photos concerning U 78.
