Hello to all :D; more: Wilhelm Franken (born in Bielefeld-Schildesche September 11, 1914 - died in Kiel on January 13, 1945)!

He joined the Kriegsmarine in April 1935 and, after completing his training, he sailed aboard the "Gorch Fock" and the light cruiser "Karlsruhe". In 1938 he was an artillery officer in the Danube flotilla and later served on the battleship "Scharnhorst". In late 1940 he joined the U-Bootwaffe and sailed as I WO in U 331 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Tiesenhausen. In March 1942 he took command of U 565, with which he sank the British destroyer HMS Partridge (G 30). With his ship he carried out 11 patrols with 263 days at sea. In October 1943 he became a member of the BdU General Staff under Admiral Friedeburg. Wilhelm Franken died in the fire aboard the "Dar es Salaam" and was posthumously promoted to Korvettenkapitän. He received the Knight's Cross on April 30, 1943 as kapitänleutnant.

Hello to all :D; more: Some peculiarities about commanders in the Type II.

November 03, 1936 Kptlt. HARALD GROSSE relinquishes command of U 8, no information on his immediate successor. Next CO Kptlt. Georg Peters 24 Jun 1938 (anything new about it?)

March 1937 U 21 was commanded by the following commanders, Kapitänleutnant WILHELM AMBROSIUS, Kapitänleutnant KURT FREIWALD and Fregattenkapitän ERWIN SACHS. There is no information on the duration of the respective command (this period extends between March 31, when Kapitänleutnant Werner Lott left, and October 1, when Kapitänleutnant Fritz Frauenheim took over).

September 30, 1937 the Kplt. HANNES WEINGÄRTNER takes over U 10 and U 16. How common was it to take two commands in pre-war U Bootwaffe?
