Hello to all :D; more. Kapitänleutnant Freiherr Hans-Diedrich von Tiesenhausen!

In his third Patrol Tiesenhausen sighted a formation of three battleships and decided to attack the second ship in the line. He accordingly fired a salvo of four torpedoes at her from periscope depth. This was immediately followed by three detonations. Tiesenhausen was at this time quite unaware whether he had sunk "Barham" or not. He went to Berlin on leave and found the German Admiralty equally in the dark.

U 331 sailed on her fourth patrol on 14th January, 1942, from Salamis. Her area of operation was off Tobruk. It was on this patrol that U 331's ship's company learned that "Barham" had, after all, been sunk, and much jubilation ensued. U 331 made La Spezia on 21st February, 1942. Soon after arrival Tiesenhausen was awarded the Ritterkreuz, and various members of his ship's company received other decorations.

hi, Tic Tac,
thank you for the pictures !
However:
If you look at the officers' uniforms and their caps, you will see that you "promoted" them prematurely ..
- Würdemann never made Korv.Kapt
- Merten was, while in command of U 68, still a Korv.Kapt.
- Mengersen, Kentrat and von Bülow have - recognizably - still the rank Kapitänleutnant at the time the picture was taken.

greetings, the pb

Hello Polar bear,
Thank you for the message and the correction of the ranks in the photos. I have decided for the last boat and the last rank in the Wehrmacht.
All the best for the New Year
Greetings Tic Tac
