Hello to all :D; Pips I think those were the KTB (war diaries) of the U-Waffe's HQ so Dönitz always wrote something at the end of the day. Now more follows............................

The U 109.

Operational Patrols.

6º Patrol.

She sailed from Lorient on on July 18, 1942 at 18:00 hours under the command of Kplt. Heinrich Bleichrodt, arriving back to Lorient on October 6, 1942 at 16:40 hours. The IWO was Oblt z. S Joachim Schramm.

The U 109 was 80 days at sea sailing 12750 Nm on the surface and 770 NM underwater. Operated in the mid-Atlantic, South Atlantic and then in front of Freetown in the Gulf of New Guinea. On September 20, 1942 she was resupply with 42 m3 of fuel and provisions for five days by the U-460. Sank five ships totaling 35,601 tons.

07/08/42 - 21:47 hours Arthur W. Sewall (Nor) 6030 tons.
11/08/42 - 19:13 hours Vimeiro (Br) 5728 tons.
03/09/42 - 00:50 hours Ocean Might (Br) 7173 tons.
06/09/42 - 23:53 hours Tuscan Star (Br) 11 449 tons.
17/09/42 - 13:14 hours Peterton (Br) 5221 tons.

Dönitz opined that the patrol was well and carefully implemented. Tenacious hunting and quick decision led the commander to be successful, including two ships of value, for its great size. Due to the large number of submersible in the sea, fuel can not be provided to all of them. The distribution is done according to direction and location of the area of operations. The lack of regard for her own ship can not therefore taken personally and to cause damage, as it was seen from the KTB .... (The problems started with the Kp Lt Heinrich Bleichrodt?)

Hello to all :D; last patrol under Bleichrodt and the end of the history............................

The U 109.

Operational Patrols.

7º Patrol.

She sailed from Lorient on November 28, 1942 at 17:00 hours under the command of Kplt. Heinrich Bleichrodt, arriving back to St. Nazaire on 23 January 1943 at 12:15 hours. The IWO was Oblt z. S Joachim Schramm, who brought back the submersible, apparently after a nervous breakdown suffered by her Kaleun.

The U 109 was 66 days at sea sailing 7900 Nm on the surface and 746 NM underwater. Operated in the western Atlantic, the Caribbean and beforeTrinidad. On january 12, 1943 she was refueled with 15 m3 of fuel by the U 463. No sinkings were recorded.

Apparently after a failed attack on December 26, 1942 the Kaleun suffered a nervous breakdown and on December 27, 1942 he requested to return to port due to medical problems but the BdU ordered to continue the mission and if necessary transfer the command to the IWO. On New Year's Day of 1943, Bleichrodt radioed that he was returning to port for lack of fuel. On his return Bleichrodt was hospitalized.

Hello to all :D; a complement............................

U 109 joined Lorient on November 18, 1941

About the emblem: Kptlt. Heinrich Bleichrodt chose this emblem on his newly commissioned U-boat U 67 in January 1941. When Bleichrodt then took command of U 109, in June 1941 he also put this emblem on that boat............
