Hi, U 37 had a navigation error so its position may be wrong.
U 37 is the only boat that matches this account.
I find it hard to believe that its Captain would dive with his men on the deck and then not mention it in the log.
That man had been in the german navy before it was called the kriegsmarine he had far too much experience to make a mistake ike that.
I think the ships crew got it wrong.
Regards MH.

Thank you very much again Mark : No casualties were reported in U 37 for that patrol, so in the end all went OK. The British Captain was not sure about that
and apparently left his guns' crew in the water as we heard loud cries of distress
...it could be the WO hurried the men inside.....Cheers. Raúl M 8-).

PS: Nevertheless the option in this case was a few or the whole boat..............

Thank you very much . Three U boats were operating in the general area at that time (U 37, U 46 and U 48), but none of them reported the incident.....not glamorous for a skipper to nearly be sunk for an old steamer and (may be) leaving part of the crew behind.....or too much scotch in the coffe mug of the british Captain...who knows?. Cheers. Raúl M 8-).
