Hi Ron,

yes, U 991 is correct. Arrived Bergen together with U 1227 on 26 Dec 44 at 1300 and were received by the flottilla commander Lehmann-Willenbrock ("Der Alte"), seen right on the pier in a leather coat. Mr. Lothar-Günther Buchheim was present at Bergen in December 1944 and took a number of shots in the harbour.

Nobby, the figure at the bow was just another bad Nazi trick to deceive post-war enthusiasts like us. Still works. So keep out, buddy!

Thank you Axel, one more boat for my archive, still 484 boats to go,there are still unaccounted in my archive.

Why would Bucheim gave the boat a wrong ID,he writes in his book that the boat in question is U 1202 Thomsen, instead of U 991,he was there?????.
I think we will never know, perhaps memory loss when whrote these books.

Another great picture from Bucheim`s book,U 991,26-12-1944 Bergen.

Ron.

Hi I've been caught-out once or twice with wrong ID's in publications. It is natural to think that the author made them but they could be mistakes by the printers so beware.

Hi Nobby,

better try U 156 - emblem from city of Plauen - instead of U 194.

So sorry, but still amateur status!

Best wishes

Axel

Hi Ron,
bad karma wrote:hi,

U 123 commissioning,30-05-1940 Karl-Heinze Moehle.

As far as i know(at least to me),some U.A.K. emblems are not known for some U-Boats.

Note the triangle on the cunning-tower,it looks like an schoolboat emblem,
this boat was commissioned before her U.A.K. trials.

Ron.
I found another picture of U 123 with this "pre-UAK" symbol.
123-2.jpg
and also this one painted in white, not U 123.

Similar symbols were also painted on CT of type VII B boats.
