Hi Pikap,

I agree. Yes, there is something seriously wrong with Hogel`s UAK symbols. More later on that matter. Iam working on it.

Did some further digging.
The Coat of Arms is Hannover, at least 3 boats. U-133 (Hesse), U-194 (Hesse) and U-577 (Schauenburg).
Image

1) Arrivel on 26 November 1941, ST. Nazaire, France.
From right to left, U-133 (NOT U-577) and U-552.
Image

2) Same date and location.
I think this picture is correct now, closest to the camera, U-133, U-552, U-567 and U-577.
Note U-133; the 2 vertical bars to enter the Cunning Tower. U-577 doesn`t have that.

U-133 with the 7th Flotilla emblem.

U-133 with the 23rd Flotilla emblem, and a freshly painted Cunning Tower.

Please correct me if Iam wrong.

Regards,

Ron.

And this a scan from U-BOOT IM FOCUS, No 8, page 43.
It`s says U-133 (wrong nav lights). I think this is U-331 with von Tiesenhausen left on the Cunning tower.
I think Hogel was confused with U-331`s emblem. Please have a look.
Image

I think U-133`s emblem in Hogel`s book never exsists.

Have a nice day, time for a beer.

Regards,

Ron.

Hi Pikap,

Thanks, both pictures are really nice.
Please, take a better look at the Cunning Tower of U-577. I think the boat has NOT the Coat of Arms at all.

Looks like the same date and location, U-577 has allready left, the lock gate is open.

Ron

Here is another picture of Commander Hesse 2nd boat in the center. U-194 with the Coat of Arms of Hannover.
The boat left is U-200, and the boat on the right is U-420. The 3 boats daparted on 12 June 1943, Kiel, Germany.
Only U-420 survived this patrol and arrived after 35 days in Lorient, France.
U-200 and U-194 were lost 13 days later, south-west of Iceland. In totall 122 men died.
