Hi
If you are posting re #223 it cannot be U 901 surely, as deck planks are for an earlier built boat.

I-8 had his deck gun in front of the tower, and it was a twin gun. I think this is I-30, a typ B at Lorient. The typ B had the deck gun after the tower because the front used a sailplane house.

Best regards,
Lionfish

Hi Lionfish

The front part is not visible in the image so I can not tell if it has a cannon or a hangar....
In any case, It is possible that you are right ... I am not an expert on Japanese submarines....

Hi, Same class as I-30 the gap in the middle of the railings at the very top right of the picture is a known feature.
Looking at the conning tower, if you follow the ladder upwards you can make out the twin anti-aircraft guns at the top. Hard to see as crew are waving.
Last of all the five inch gun is where it should be.

Hello to all :D; a query.............................

Which one? (not U 96).

As per the seller: U-96 (Maling Sägefish) läuft in den uboothafen von Pola ein.........................Nevertheless U 96 never was deployed there...Maybe U 407 (from 9. U-Flotille)?

Hi, U 407 was the first of this series to have a curved bar at the forward end of it's railings. Exactly where the crewman is stood at the end of the deckgun. Boats U 403 to U 406 had a straight bar as well as U 408, which was commissioned before U 407. The boats after U 408 had a curved bar.
