U-boat deck guns - I need your help
Re: U-boat deck guns.......... I need your help
In first movie :
At 0:14 of the reel ammunition is 10,5 cm Lg Patr 32L/4
At 0:59 of the reel ammunition is 10,5 Spgr Patr 32L/4,4 Ub.S
In the second movie :
At 2:05 - 2:07 of the reels is an 10,5 cm SKC/32U
At 2:55 - 2:56 of the reels is an 8,8 cm SKC/32U
I d'ont know the ammunition and is not interesting because of the "mixture" of the movie, build from different parts

Thanks for clearing that up, I ought to have paid attention to the gun itself rather than just the ammunition. I thought my eyes were not decieivng me. Of course the film has been 'made up' for propaganda purposes. Do you know of any more accurate original film?vladalex wrote:In first movie :

I think the use of the deck gun was very limited, and used mainly in the early years against unarmed merchantment.
I will keep looking for further reference on the subject, it is all part of the fun of collecting!!

Hello to all ; a little complement
Firing with the deck gun!
On 20 Nov, 1939, U 33 sank three trawlers with about five rounds from the deck gun each near Tory Island: At 10.30 hours the Thomas Hankins 14 miles northwest of Tory, at 16.00 hours the Delphine 18 miles north-northeast of Tory and at 17.05 hours the Sea Sweeper 25 miles west-northwest of Tory.
Between 08.30 and 09.20 hours on 21 Nov, 1939, U 33 sank the Sulby and William Humphries about 75 miles northwest of Rathlin, each with about 5 rounds from the deck gun.

I think the photo shows the English trawler Sulby isn't it? Cheers. Raúl M .

Hello to all ; a little doubt: U boat deck gun construction!
In an auction on the web I saw an album entitled U boat deck gun construction. Looking at the sample photos I had the following questions: what kind of gun?; Does it correspond to the WWII? and if so, what type of submersible used them?

I came accross a book "U-Boat War Patrol - The Hidden Photographic Diary of U-564" by Lawrence Paterson, 2004.
https://lawrencepaterson.com/u-boat-war-patrol/
U-564 was a type VIIC boat lead by the famous Reinhard "Teddy" Suhren.
Several pictures of deck gun usage. The storage of the shells and delivery to the gun is described like this (from Finnish translation back to English):
"The shells were stored under the floor planks near captains cabin. The shells were in individual metal containers. The shells were lifted by hand to the conning tower. From there they were lowered to the deck using a slope, for the gunners to pick them up."
