was it allowed to wear eyeglasses during the service ?

HI If the man you saw was an officer then he probably is a Doctor.
According to the interrogation report on U 845 the first commander Udo Behrens was relived of his command-the informant suspects an eye problem being the cause of it.

That would be easy...but it was a Bootsmannsmaat on U 633 ;
I found the Heldentodurkunde and some pictures in the estate of his brother ( Oblt. and later commander of U 2351 ).

On all the images this guy is wearing his eyeglasses ??!!
