First World War U boat orchestra

Post by Mannheim » 10 Aug 2017 05:33

For what it's worth I found this photo while cleaning up. From what I can read of the German sign (lower right) it seems to say "Orchestra of U 84 ...unintelligible ... Unterseeboot" although I'll happily be corrected on my translation. The photo comes from my in-laws so I know nothing about it but if anyone's interested I can see if my 98-year-old mother-in-law can shed any light on it. The orchestra is obviously not on U 84 for the photo.

Likely they are on the bow or stern of the support "mother" ship. That should be possible to track down from U-84's flotilla records. Her recollections might be very interesting.
