e-bay U 1061

Post by oldhoweboy » 18 Aug 2018 11:59

Hello
This "cleaned up" image is on ebay.de with many others of U 1061. The caption with this image is "U 1061 U-Boot Typ VIIF auf Grund gelaufen,Tarn Fahrt Bergen-Kiel 1945" I cannot find any record of this "incident"! I would like to receive any information if you have any
Regards
Nobby

Hello,
This is U 1061 ! Look the life raft canisters on the deck. U 1060 didn't had them.
Some pictures show the both ships on the same situation but some differences exist : The rock wasn't the same, U 1061 had an Askania gyrocompas' house and U 1060 had and old house. U 1060 was more on the right side than U 1061.
I'm not sure but, looking the pictures in detail, i think U 1060 had a schnorchel without an induction pipe on the tower and U 1061 could had it.

I hope i give you a good help.
Best regards,
Lionfish.

Hi,

There are records that U 1061 ran aground on 07-02-1945 at Alvo and towed to Bergen, Norway with hull damage. I think Alvo is infact Alvøyna, Norway.
I`ll hope Axel can clear things up.

My best regards,
Ron.

Hi there,

I did so already four years ago in my book on U-boat losses (2nd edition). The pic of U 1061 is included in the photo section following page 148 with all details  .

Best
