German submarine launched weather beacon

#1

Reading Peillard's Laconia book and near the beginning it is mentioned there was a German submarine launched floating weather beacon which would transmit weather data via Morse. Said to appear as a torpedo with a popup antenna. Anyone have specifications for this piece of equipment? Pics? How long they would transmit? Allied captures? The usual who, what, where, etc.

Thanks. I see U-156 was utilized twice to launch these weather buoys in July and August 1942. A month before sinking the Laconia.
