U 293 Questions

Post by oldhoweboy » 07 Apr 2020 14:09

Hello All
This image shows three officers of U 293 on commission day.

Image

On the crew website it shows 6 officers, where were the other three?
For which deed was BtsMt Paul Friedrick, awarded the DKiG on the 11/03/45?
Why did this boat have two commanders on surrender?
Please stay safe!

Hi Nobby,

I can see four persons, although 2. WO Horst Grande (extreme left) is still Oberfähnrich zur See. The others seem to have gone for a Barton!

Keep on!

Nobby,

I have never heard of a second CO at the time of surrender. Whom do you mean besides Klingspor?

Hi

The boat only had 1 Commander when it surrendered AFAIK.
Are you referring to Oblt Steinbrink who commanded the boat for a single patrol before moving to U 953 in April'45?

Regards

Hi

Well come the surrender, he was in charge of U 953 and not U 293.
Any overlap would be a administrative aspect than a real time operational one.
