Where can I dive on a U-boat?

Post by issac022 » 30 Oct 2020 09:07

We've all got that bucket list a mile long in our heads of the places we'd like to dive - I've thought for a while now diving on a german U-boat would be right up there with world-class wreck sites.

I'm looking for the best examples of WWII era U-boat wrecks. Local dive shops and charters that can take me there. Stories. Anything you have. I've been down a few too many U-boat YouTube black holes over quarantine and need to start planning some dive trips again. Anything down to 60m would be perfect. Vis is a bonus but not essential... you can't beat these things appearing out of the gloom below. I'm based in the UK so Europe would be ideal.

issac022,

it is illegal to dive for an U-Boot, at least in the North Sea area for german U-Boote from both world wars,
all this is left to the officials, what a question?

These places are gravesites of fallen sailors, stay away from them!

Lots of U Boats off Donegal , "Deadlight boats" but as a non-diver from what I have read they are all difficult technical dives and support is needed as well as an expert boat crew. ( Lives have been lost diving on them.).

It's illegal to disturb a war grave. Visiting one isn't illegal.

OpanaPointer,

I understand what you mean, but the respect for the many former crewmembers, who found their final resting place in these boats,
that respect simply prohibits any diving "tourism" to these grave sites.

Am I wrong ?

Would you like it, if thousands of hobby divers every year would dive at the site of the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor,
for sure not.

For me, such a thing is a matter of personal decency, not debatable.

U-352 off North Carolina coast

There's also U-576 but not sure if it's divable.
