Torpedo
What's this, German?
Re: Torpedo
Yes. It is a German Torpedo used by the Kriegsmarine since 1936 on their U-Boats.

Re: Torpedo
Which kind of torpedo did German U-boat use to sink the British steamship Lusitania? It killed 1,195 people including 128 Americans, according to the Library of Congress.

Re: Torpedo
Most likely, the torpedo that did Lusitania in was a G6.
This torpedo is:
50cm dia
6 m long
160 kg warhead using Hexanite
Speed:
35k for 2200 m
27K for 5000 m
It uses a four-cylinder wet heater engine

Re: Torpedo
The second operational torpedo of the Kriegsmarine (and the first with electrical propulsion). Correct designation is G7e(TII). Introduced in 1936. Note that the drawing is not correct in terms of color and the nose-mounted pistol.
Lusitania was attacked and sunk by U-20 on 7th May 1915. U-20 had 50 cm torpedotubes.Colonel666 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2022, 02:50Which kind of torpedo did German U-boat use to sink the British steamship Lusitania? It killed 1,195 people including 128 Americans, according to the Library of Congress.
The Kaiserliche Marine (1871–1919) deployed the following 50 cm torpedoes in WWI:
* G/6 (fielded in 1911)
* G/6D (fielded in 1912)
* G/7 (fielded in 1913, only for surfacevessels)
* G/7** (fielded in 1917, only for surfacevessels)
* G/6 AV (fielded in 1914)
* G/6 AV* (fielded in 1917)
* G/6 AV** (fielded in 1918)
So G/6, G/6 D or G/6 AV are the only possible candidates.
Re: Torpedo
When Schweiger in an interview for media dissemination mentioned older bronze torpedoes then that must have been disinformation.
