Note that most sailors died far AFTER WW2 ended. On the tombstone of the commander Friedrich Steinfeld Mr. Müller placed some flowers and following poem:

U 195
U195 was a Type IXD2 and was commandeered (Became I-506) by the Japanesse in the Far East when Germany surrendered. The U195 was a cargo converstion.

U-195 was not a type IX-D2 (armed with torpedoes) but rather a type IX-D1 with forward torpedoes removed and a forward cargo compartment substituted. Her sister U-180 was sunk by a mine in the Gironde estury leaving for the Far East after the Normandy invasion.
U-195 sailed from Bordeaux on 21 August 1944, arriving Djakarta with six V-2 rockets amongst other cargo on 28 December 1944. She left for europe on 21 January 1945 and I believe refuelled othe U-boats at sea in the Indian Ocean, being forced to return to Djakarta in March 1945.
