U 530 and U 977

#1

Post by M.Foster » 27 Apr 2004, 10:27

Can anyone tell me what became of these two boats? I know that they left Kristiansund, Norway 2nd May 1945, and surrended at Mar del Plata in the summer.

Does anyone know who commanded these boats, how many crew were aboard and if they carried cargo?

Thanks.

Have a book somewhere about U 977 - she certainly carried no cargo - apart from one non-functioning diesel. She made The Plate on the other diesel alone - and - at a Popular Majority Vote of the crew, not the Captains decision.

The U-boats U 530 and U 977 surrendered six months after the end of the 2nd GM. Some time later, the US sailors came and took both submarines and their entire crew. But in ARGENTINA there was a log book and a flag, possibly from U 977. When they arrived at MAR DEL PLATA, at the Argentine Naval Base there were two officers who spoke German, one of them was Captain MANRIQUE. Who would know the truth of the trip and the load of both U-Bootes and would have kept both items, the log book and the flag of U 977. The topic was to cover up the possible sinking of the Cruise BAHIA of the Brazilian Navy by U 977. Fact that if so, they would accuse the Germans of war crimes.

The two U-boats, 530 and 977, would have been part of a convoy of submarines that were heading to the coasts of Patagonia Argentina, USUHAIA or CHILE. They did not bring strange materials or people outside the crew, except that they had previously disembarked people somewhere on the coast of Buenos Aires. The U 530 had already made several trips to the coast of BS AS and this was the last. It is said that on a trip to Argentina, I unload a treasure that I would have received from the Japanese I-52 submarine on the high seas.
