Hi,

Could anyone please tell me the best way to research a relative who was in the Polish army at the start of WWII ?

If he served in the Polish Army (West):
A Subject Access Requests (SAR) form needs to be completed in order to access records.
Polish Records.

You can write in English, but answer will be in Polish. Provide maximum information, particularly relationship, and reason for request.

Just a cautionary note: If you go on the Polish site http://www.caw.wp.mil.pl/ a note pops up saying:

Centralne Archiwum Wojskowe nie udziela odpowiedzi na e-mail, osoba zainteresowana przeprowadzeniem kwerendy powinna zwrócić się pisemnym wnioskiem do szefa CAW z prośbą na jej wykonanie. Wniosek ten należy przesłać pocztą na adres CAW.
