Please identify this Polish tank
Could someone tell me what type of tank this is, and when and where the Poles used it?
Dziekuje.

Re: Please identify this Polish tank
I'd say it's certainly a Russian T-34/76B (although that may not be the long-41.2 caliber-76.2mm gun), a model first introduced in 1942. I would guess the Polish symbol on the turret indicates it was adopted by the Poles after WW 2. Nice display model.

Thanks very much. I looked at T-34 pictures but they weren't they same, but the T-34/76B seems a closer match.

6th tank from the top
Its a T-34/76 m1941, the hull was produced in 1942 at the Stalingrad Tractor Factory(STZ) and the turret in 1941.

This T-34 belonged to Polish 1. Brygada Pancerna (1st Tank Brigade). It's a monument in Gdansk.
Re: Please identify this Polish tank
I enjoy the upside down mg! It appears to me on the surface to be something pieced together for display.
Re: Please identify this Polish tank
which piece is upside down? no jargon please.
Re: Please identify this Polish tank
Good afternoon, Adam Carr!
The machine gun armoured cover is turned upside down, as the barrel is in the upper position, while it should be in the lower position.
Compare with this photo of the tank from Moscow Museum of the Armed Forces (http://legion-afv.narod.ru/T-34-76_MoscowCMMF.html):
Best regards, Aleks

Re: Please identify this Polish tank
I see, thanks. Maybe the tank was reassembled after the war from bits and pieces.
What's puzzling about this tank is that I couldn't see any kind of plaque or marker to indicate when and why it was put there. Obviously it commemorates WW2 in a general sense, but most Polish war memorials have a plaque of some kind.

Re: Please identify this Polish tank
The more I look at the more it looks like something made up for display or something that underwent some sort of refit. It is not of a pure type. It looks like a 1942 but has waffle track (not all 42's had it). The steel wheels are something that appeared because of the shortage of rubber around 1942. The one steel waffle/rubber wheel is something more common on a t34/85. I think someone thought it was a Zavod Nr. 112. (Krasnoye Sornovo Zavod Nr. 112) The turret does not have the mods associated with that factory. I can't see the back of the turret or the chassis which would give us more clues.
The Polish Eagle is the version used by the Lublin Poles, always can be identified as such as the communists removed the traditional crown.

Re: Please identify this Polish tank
- This is the earliest version of the T-34 produced by Zavod Nr. 183 in 1941.
- This tank was modernized in 1943 and then transferred to 1. Brygada Pancerna (Polish 1st Tank Brigade).
- For the second time this T-34 was modernized in 1945.
- The machine gun armoured cover is turned upside down because... someone has turned it upside down This tank is standing at the main street of Gdansk.

Re: Please identify this Polish tank
It's on Ulica Zwycięstwa (Hindenburg Allee), to the north-west of the city, which I don't think could be called the main street of the city. There's another mounted T-34 at Westerplatte, but I didn't get there.
Incidentally, Polish contributors, today is the 70th anniversary of the Hitler-Stalin pact, probably the blackest day in modern Polish history.

Re: Please identify this Polish tank
You are right, it's not the main street but it's one of the longest streets in Gdansk
Currently there is no T-34 at Westerplatte. This tank was taken to military museum two yeras ago.

I would like to know where YOU said that the tank was modernized in 1945? This nonsense is why I am scarce on these boards now, I'm sick of the pettiness.
