Need Help to identify the Uniform

Post by RayB1 » 14 Sep 2016 03:53

Hello,

This is a picture of an unknown Polish Cousin of mine. I believe it was taken around 1910, however that is just a guess.

I am asking your help to determine which service he was in, rank, and anything you can deduce from the medals he is wearing.

My great thanks to you in advance!!!

There was no polish army in 1910, as there were no polish state. So if this is a polish uniform, it must have been from later on after 1918.
(Hallers and Pilsudskis legions were during the WWI I think)

OR its not a polish uniform, although a Pole is carrying it including all the medals.

I agree with Stephan

The first medal looks like this medal given to veterans of the Polish Soviet War:
(see also http://home.golden.net/~medals/IIrp.html and http://www.uniforminsignia.org/?option= ... esult=2531 )

It's a uniform of Master sergeant from 22nd Mountain Infantry Division. Not before 1921, when this unit was formed.
Note the swastika on the collar and number 22 on shoulder tab.
If we become increasingly humble about how little we know, we may be more eager to search.

He is senior sergeant of HQ of 22th Mountain division. "10 years of independence" medal place the photo after 1928.
Incredible it may sound, other than the 2 leftmost medals and rightmost chest badge the rest of awards look Ottoman.
Do you have this photo in better quality? It's really interesting to the rightmost medal in detail.

Hello all,

You all have amazed me! I have this pic in a much larger size but had to downsize it to post it here. If you know of a way to get the bigger pic to you I would be glad to do that.

Thank you all for the information so far!

Medal in the center:
10th Anniversary of Independence
The 10th Anniversary of Independence was awarded in 1928 to those with 5 years Civil Service or Military Service.

Unfortunately, I have nothing new to add :(
I'm still unable to identify rightmost medal and badges. But there is a high probability, that medal ribbon from the button hole is a ribbon of Ottoman War Medal, AKA Iron Crescent.

I'm pretty sure medal on the right is a Lithuanian one. Can't tell which one exactly.
You may want to research this further...

The last medal is Latvian Atbrīvošanas cīṇu 10 gadu jubilejas piemiṇas medaļa - Latvian War of Liberation 10th anniversary medal
https://lv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latvijas_ ... eda%C4%BCa

Medal was quite common in Polish Army and in Polish nomenclature it was called Medal Pamiątkowy 1918-1928 - Commemorative Medal 1918-1928.

Hope it helps!

May be easier to move the photo to a laptop of desktop device & upload the photo from there. I've never had trouble that route. Off a phone is problematic & it will take a better man than I to advise on that procedure.
