Would you attend such a rally
and swear your aligence to the Third Reich
because of your wage or a bribe?

If I had to eat and had a family to support - too bloody right I would. There are few negatives to attending and a lot of positives (including paid day off work???).

We all do it. We may not agree with what our government does, even violently or how it spends the money we give it but we still support it by paying our taxes, 'cos we don't want to go to prison..... I put up with nearly three years of new management that introduced policies which I utterly disagreed with, effectively torpedoed my work at huge financial cost to the organisation and allowed a great deal of measurable and demonstrable harm to vulnerable people. Despite that, it was only after I had assured myself of alternative income that I felt able to protest as forcefully as I should and eventually resign in protest. And the consequence to me of immediate refusal to co-operate would have been infinitely less severe than those faced by the people we are talking about here.

I'm rather thinking about that guy, Czech businessman - Jaroslav Pála, who informed on Lidice to the Nazis. He was rich, he didn't have to do it (his factory actually still exists today.)
And the fact that at least seventy-seven Czech citizens provided valuable information to the authorities about the Reinhard Heydrich's assassins.

And that the assassins had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Maybe because all their compatriots were on Wenceslas Square?
The truth is the population were at best indifferent, usually hostile towards the assassins.

He reported a suspicious letter received from Lidice by one of his female workers. The letter seemingly indicated one of the assassins was hiding in Lidice.
The rest was history.

So, they murdered a village full of innocents. Classic Nazis, I suppose! :(

The Nazis would say that it was a warning shot to pacify the population and that such things happened before too.
