Polish Infantry WWII Service Decorations

Can someone please clarify the awarding of Polish Army Infantry military decorations.
My uncle was serving in the Polish Armed Forces enlisting 25 March 1938. During the 'September 1939 Campaign' he was taken prisoner by the invading German army on 7 September 1939 in the area of Piotrkow and ended up doing forced labour in various parts of Germany. After the war he did not return back to Poland.
Am I correct in my assumption that he was still in service of the Polish Army at the end of WWII (1938 - 1945)? and is he eligible to receive any Polish military campaign medals/decorations for service to the country. If so, how do I go about applying for them? Thank you.

Unfortunately those established in Polish People's Republic are no longer awarded, like this one:
Medal "For participation in the defensive war of 1939".

About a similar medal, you might want to email Department below:
Office for Veterans and Victims of Oppression
It is called: Obrońcy Ojczyzny 1939-1945 / Defenders of the Fatherland 1939-1945.
