Gen. Sosabowski's quote at "A Bridge Too Far"

I really do not know if this has already been dicussed elsewhere (but if it counts, I really have searched for it with the searching engine of the forum, and found nothing).

At that film Gen. Sosabowski (Gene Hackman) when discussing the Market-Garden plan with Gen. "Tod" Browning tells him something like
"As you know, general, I am a pole. And I am said by some to be inteligent. That really makes me a member of a true minority".

Can anyone tell me if that phrase was really pronounced by sosabowski to Browning?

I really believe that the good old Sosabowski was able of that and more, but I would really like to know if he really said so, or it's just a fine screen-writer's creation.

Regards.

This will be a hard question to answer as I doubt there is any recorded transcript of what occurred in a meeting room in Sept 1944. What I can do is put into context the views of some of the 'real veterans' of the movie a bridge to far. Major-General Frost was quoted in the 1980s that he was extremely disappointed in the inaccuracies of the movie. So I hope that puts the content of the movie into context.

Cheers

Well I supposed that no record of that conversation would exist. I was thinking about if Sosabowski himself or someone of his entourage wrote about that later (in memoirs or something).

I love that film anyway, I don`t expect it (or anyone else) to be too accurate, but I enjoy it every time I watch it (and that`s quite often je je je).

Wow man I would really like to, but... It is out of print at the moment. And the old copies look to be quite sought after, they are almost 60 sterling pounds at Amazon UK. I'm afraid that it goes a a bit over of my book budget for this month!!!

Thank you anyway, I will keep on looking for it.

Awesome link, mate!!!

Thank you very much. Up to now I used to purchase books either from Amazon UK or searching at Ebay; but this one really goes a step ahead.

Already bookmarked.

General Browning´s nickname was Boy, not Tod.
