Identification of Polish Army Uniform and Unit

#1

Post by L D Banach » 06 Mar 2006, 17:47

Attached is a copied photo of my father's [Polish?] military uniform. My goal is to obtain detailed information regarding his uniform and unit, as well as the area in which the unit fought during WWII, and if any members of his unit are still living. Also I would welcome Polish Archive addresses for further research. The one key feature on my father's uniform is the # 6 on his left shoulder. Thank you!

To obtain the war records of Polish soldier who fought alongside the Allies in World War II, write to the British Army records office. Send details of your relationship to the soldier in question and the possible units and dates of service.

This probably isn't going to help much but... the number 6...

6th (Legion) Pilsudski Infantry Regt.
or
6th Highland Rifle Regt.
or
6th Kaniowski Lancer Regt
or
6th Hetman Zolkiewski Mounted Rifle Regt.
or
6th Field Artillery Regt.
or
6th Medium Artillery Regt.

The Breast badge looks like the Frontier Defence Corp Badge and not any of the badges of the above units.
He also has something on his hat which might indicate some mountain formation.
He is also wearing an unstiffened hat, not directly pre-war era. The "rogatywka" underwent three revisions - the wz. 1919, the wz. 1927, and then the wz. 1935. The last one being the stiff topped. This picture is probably before 1935 then.

It seems to be a photocopy - any chance of a scan?
