#1

Post by Kelvin » 19 Jan 2020, 16:47

I see during the battle of Sedan in May 1940, French B class 55th infantry division only had 12 x 25mm antitank guns while 71 infantry division only had 8 x 25mm AT guns, is it normal Situation for other 15 x B class divisions in May 1940 ? Thank

Hi, Loic, thank for your help. Did B class divisions still kept 37mm TF16 IG for use in 1940 ?

From my notes concerning the French 55th Division. As of 10 May 1940 the AT gun establishment:

One company of 8 47mm. Not clear but suspect this was the division AT company

One company of 8 47mm . This was attached from the 2d Army AT group.

A 'unit' of 3 47mm of a obsolete naval design

One company of 9 37mm. This is of ambigous origin. Possibly attached from the X Corps AT group.

One platoon of 3 25mm belonging to the 11th MG battalion

One company of 22 25mm, part of the 147 Fortress Regiment of the Torcy fortified sector. These regiments were under the control of whatever corps or field division occupied their defense sector. The battalions of the 147 were distributed across the entire defense from & occupied the permanent weapons bunkers near the river & in the second defense zone.

My notes have nothing of any AT guns as part of the infantry regiments. Those may be the 12 25mm identified in the first post. This is drawn from several sources, including Doughtys 'The Breaking Point'

Thanks. You should make a effort to cross check all that. Multiple secondary sources tend to be distorted.
