Re: Maginot Line bunkers
When I stated that the intermediate level also controlled the elevation of the 81 mm mortars I might have misled the procedure. The level controlled the range setting, but did not vary the elevation of the tube. The 81 mm fortress mortar fired from a fixed tube elevation and the range was adjusted by a valve which bled off propellant gas to shorten the range from the maximum. A further confirmation that it is an 81 mm mortar turret is the ripple shell Ready Service Rack at the base of the turret level.

Hi Sturm,
that looks like it could be one of the STG casemates for 75mm Mle1897 field gun situated in La Ferte village area. "Panzerwerk 505" is something like German name for the unlucky Petite Ouvrage La Ferte? I have seen other German numbers (like "Panzerwerk xxx". or "Hohe xxx") in Maginot line casemates photo descriptions.

Re: Maginot Line bunkers
The picture is 47 MM m1934 note the sighting cover is centered. The 37 MM m1934 has a smaller more rounded sighting cover on the left side of the mount. See attached photo.

Re: Maginot Line bunkers
I have called the protrusion above a sighting cover however it actually covers the recoil system. both have sighting apertures, that of the 47 mm is centered with a small sight aperture on the left side, that of the 37 has the offset more prominent sight aperture on the left side.
