hello Lee

I hope the campaign plan for your serie still goes well for 2020

I wonder for the very interesting Volume VI part 2 Medical & Quatermaster services (2010), it was for lack of space you didn't precise more how/where was assigned each company pages 30-31 and 80?

59 Compagnies de COMA de RG page 30
-24 assigned to the Armies (8e 9e 10e under 9e Armée)
-12 to field bakeries
-14 to GRC
-3 to Stations-Magasins
-6 in Reserve

I identified the 1ère Cie maybe with Field Bakery (BOC)n° 1 near Crépy-en-Valois
23e Cie to BOC n°8 Dijon
13e was in Verdun, 15e located in the same postal sector than 10e, 19e Cie also in Meuse around Commercy St Mihiel

for the 20 Indochinese Auxiliaries Companies of the Field Bakeries page 31
the 191 men of the 711e Cie were interned into Switzerland - by deduction -> was with BOC n°10 of the 8e Armée
found the 719e Cie suffering heavy losses in Montataire near Creil the 18th may so maybe assigned to BOC n°1

about the Nurses Companies page 80 assigned to the HOE²
found only the 15e Cie in Vittel so with the HOE² n°5
13e 14e 21e Cie followed 7e Armée while 17e was with 1ère Armée...

Hi,

COVID-19 has changed everything.

I was due to go to Paris in March but had to cancel the trip as Paris went into lockdown and the archives were shut. I lost most of my money.

With lockdowns popping up all over the place I'm not going to try again until the pandemic ends or there's a working vaccine.

For the record I got the virus in December 2019 from someone whose partner had been in China. Luckily I was only ill for a day with it.

I can't even get to the UK National Archives to do some research on the BEF as they limiting you to one visit per week and six items only. Its just not worth the expense.

In the meantime I've done some online research into other subjects for future books.

Looks like its going to be another year before the second editions will be ready.

Hi,

The pandemic has held things up as I've not been able to get to Paris to research the few missing pieces of data to complete this part of the series. I hope to get out to Paris later this year dependant on the restrictions placed by the French government. At the moment you have to have had a vaccine within the past 9 months so mine will run out before I plan to go (Paris is cheaper in the Autumn). Fingers crossed the restrictions change.

In the meantime I've decided to do a complete rewrite, rather than updated editions. This means more detailed OOB data, including the peacetime army. I also plan to included more officer details.

This means it may delay things a while I type all this stuff up and check it.

Kind Regards

Lee

Hi Loïc,

2023 is the target for all the new editions.

As I said in my previous post there will be more data. I'm aiming to keep the page count for volume 1 down to 700 pages.

The chapter on military districts has been expanded to include the peacetime and wartime OOB so lots of extra pages. I'm updating the maps as well.

I've identified all the officers in the Army Staff and GQG so they will be included and the officers in the armies and corps have been traced as well.

Unfortunately the unit diagrams have had to be deleted to make space. Also deleted are the tables of units, although they seemed a good idea at the time, they proved more trouble than they are worth and will be replaced by a list instead which will allow me to include more data.

hello Lee

all the new editions, you mean that in 2023 all the revised volumes numbered 1 to 6-3 into new I-II-III will be available not only the first 700-pages volume?
Loïc wrote:

Situation of divisions in men, weapons and equipment. Organisation of road and rail transport. Organisation of logistics in the zone of interior and army zone.
9– The Zone of the Interior 1939-40. Changes to Military districts. Order of Battle of the Zone of the Interior 01.01.1940. Coastal defence - organisation and order of battle. Anti-aircraft defences – organisation and order of battle.

Hi Loïc,

They will be all be around 700 pages with some parts of the other original volumes being amalgamated into a single volume.

The planned volumes I have not yet written will not be numbered as originally planned as I intend to include some of this information in the new editions, for example the changes to military districts and their composition and coastal defences.

The order of battle for 09/05/1940 is partially completed, all that is needed is the maps to be drawn and a few details to be researched. This will likely be around 300 pages.

As for the next visit to Paris later this year it's good news the vaccine passports have been dropped. Hopefully the other restrictions will be lifted later this year.

The BEF will a separate volume, although I've not been able to get to Paris, I have been to London over the past year and added much on the BEF to my archive, as well as the British & Commonwealth forces in the UK and the rest of the world.

Research for the French Air Force is nearly complete, all that is missing are details on airfield buildings and equipment and airbase plans.

Kind Regards

Hi Loïc

Still aiming for 2023, but it may slip to 2024.

I'm still typing out the OOB tables - it's taking me more time than I expected. Looks like its going to be four 800 page volumes now, especially as I have decided to include separate entries for renumbered units.

There is a considerable amount of additional research in these new volumes.

I'm still visiting the archives as there are still a large number of missing details on various subjects that I missed out on the previous volumes. The documents returned by the Russians that are now available to view are filling some of the gaps.

I'll have a detailed table of contents ready soon.

Lee
