I have this down in my files as a 274 MM M 1881 on a M 1888 PC but I am far from an expert on the tricky subject of French Coastal Artillery.

Based on the design of the battery and the type of weapon I would guess that the most likely location fort de l'île Pelée at Cherbourg. I emphasize that this is a guess with about a 20 % chance of being correct.

Having examined photos I am now 50% certain that this a the lower battery of Fort Pelee, Cherbourg.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was also relatively certain but lack the doctrinal material to declare it 100%. Old habits from military intelligence processing.

That gun appears to be on a test range not in a coast defense set up. Note two other bases visible in the picture and the overhead crane on the left. While I can't id the gun, it's clearly being test fired or proofed on a range.
