Hi all,

I found this image on images defense website. I think it is a US-built (GPF) M2-M3 gun. Is this correct ?
Does anyone know when and in what quantity the Americans provided these guns to the French?

If this is the weapon you are talking about
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_de_155mm_GPF

then the answer is 48 per Hyperwar. See here on page 8.

Hi all,

I found this image on Getty webpage. The image was taken in Marseille, so I think a French naval gun. Any idea about the exact model ?
It seeems a Canet design around 75mm caliber....

Thank yoy very much for your help, ROLAND1369

In this link, is mentioned an 75mm Mle 1925 and Mle 1928, but now I can see that this is the designation of the mount model, not the gun model. There is a drawing of the Mle 1928 mount
http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNFR_3-35_m1925.php

I have not been able to find any additional information about this gun on the net...

I am afraid that the M 1928 gun drawing fro Navweapons has no relation to the original M1925 gun in the picture you posted other than being dual purpose naval guns. The model 1925 75 mm aa gun was a navalized version of the tube and Nordenfelt eccentric breech used in the 75 MM field gun M1897. The M 1928 gun was a newly designed tube which used a snider type rotating breechblock. The 1928 mount was a newly designed mount and recoil system of different design. The only common point may have been the 75 mm caliber, I doubt even the shell case/propellant weight was common to both weapons. The 1928 gun was designed for aa defense in the postwar french cruisers, early destroyers, and larger submarines.

Hi ROLAND1369,

Well. I'm a bit confused.
You have identified the gun in my image as a Mle 1897-15 in a Mle 1925 mount.
And on the Navweapons page there is talk of a Mle 1925 and a Mle 1928 model, but I am no longer sure if it is about the gun models and/or the mounts....

According to my information, the 75mm Mle 1897-15 in Mle 1925 mount only was used in Aigle-class destroyers, not in cruisers. Do you know any other ship in use this gun ?

Interesting. It looks like an ad-hoc AT gun made of the French 37 mm SA 38 for tank but with the barrel and muzzle from the 25 mm Mle 1937. :?

Hi all,

This howitzer seems an 155mm M1917-1918 of US-origin in French use in 1944.
I didn`t know that the US gave this model of howitzer to French troops
Does somebody know when and in which quantity the US gave these howitzers to French troops ?

According to the monograph International Aid Statistics World War II A Summary of War Department Lend Lease Activities, issued by the Army Service Forces, the French received 87 "Howitzers, 155mm". The type or mark is not specified.
