hi!

you are right, Duchamp, he was a Général de division (??)

but (sorry my french is more than rusty):
Général de division est, dans l'armée française, un grade militaire d'officier général, supérieur à général de brigade. Il constitue de droit le sommet des grades militaires. Néanmoins, depuis un décret du 6 juin 1939[1],[2] des généraux de division peuvent prendre « rang et appellation » de général de corps d'armée ou de général d'armée, avec des responsabilités et des privilèges supérieurs.
as far as i understood this, a Général de division is allowed to "have the rights" of an général de corps d'armée/ général d'armée (and thus the 4th star?).

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9n%C ... e_division

as i said this is only my personal interpretation of things and i might be completely wrong, maybe a native speaker will help us?

anyway good that you posted this.

regards,

Matteus

That is Alphonse-Pierre Juin. See photo at: http://www.generals.dk/general/Juin/Alp ... rance.html (I will have to get a better one)

Btw. the civilian man between Goislard de Monsabert and de Gaulle is André Diethelm at the time National Commissioner for War.

I have two french generals to identify. The first one it's an airforce general. The second one I think it's general Marie Pierre Kœnig but I need confirmation.

Hello Duchamp,
For the first one (airforce General) I think it's Général d'Aviation François d'Astier de la Vigerie.
For the second one I have a doubt, but I think also that it is Marie-Pierre Koenig better known in France as Pierre Koenig.
Kindly regards from Belgium and apoliges for my poor english

Hi,
How to spell “Général d'Aviation François d'Astier de la Vigerie” in English?

The man in left of the first pic is US general Carl Andrew Spaatz.
I think it's general Marie Pierre Kœnig in the second pic.

Best regards from China

Free French Air Force general François d'Astier de la Vigerie.
Free French Air Force = Forces Françaises Aériennes Libres = F.A.F.L.
