Bastogne surrender document reply

#1

I was wondering if anyone here knows the whereabouts of the Bastogne surrender document reply, that is Gen. Maculliffe's reply of "NUTS". I once heard that the family of Gen. Luttwittz was in posession of the document.
Any info is appreciated.

Acutally I thought it was just a verbal response sent through the German messenger.

Could be wrong though.

The reply was in paper. It was-To the German Commander:"Nuts".The American Commander.
German delegation was a Major, propably from XXXXVII Panzer Corps staff and Leutnant Henke 3rd orderly officer of panzer Lehr. When Henke wished American Colonel Harper good luck as they leaved American lines,Harper replied:"go to hell".

In Helmut Ritgen's :The Western Front 44 is some intresting stuff about Bastogne.Book claims, that in 1977 von Manteuffel said that Bayerlein was un-energetic and slow to react.18th December Panzer Lehr was 6 km Northeast of Bastogne, when vehicles became stuck in mud.Von Manteffel criticized that grenadiers should have been send on foot to attack Bastogne. In that time 101st AB had not yet arrived and Bastogne could have been taken by Germans if Bayerlein had reacted more swifly.

One more "what if..."

I thought Harpers reply of "Go to Hell" was in response to Henke's question what does Nuts mean?
