Excellent ID, reedwh52! How can you tell if it is the 6x4 or 6x6?

Primarily because Crisman identified it as such. While Vanderveen does mention both 6x6 and 6x4, the primary users of the Bay City were the Navy construction battalions. The 6x4 would be more common for that use.

Not really so rare. Back in the early 60s, I owned one. So did a bunch of my Friends......

Hi Sturm,
It's not a White but a Mack NR-6, 6 x 4

Hi all,

A question about White trucks. What is the different between the White 920 and the White-Ruxtall 922 trucks ?? :? :?
Which is the origin of the brand White-Ruxtall ??

Hi Sturm,
From what I recall a few hundred White 920's were ordered by France but were never delivered after they surrendered in 1940. Some of the chassis were shipped instead to England and fitted with the wooden cab you see here as the White-Ruxtall 922.

"Which is the origin of the brand White-Ruxtall ??"

First caveat-This is conjecture on my part with regard to the -Ruxtall portion of the question.

The trucks were manufactured by White. White-Ruxtall appears to refer to a combination of the White chassis and a "Ruckstell/Ruxtall/Ruxtell" auxiliary gearbox or transfer case.

According to Vanderveen, the difference between the White 920 and the 922 power plant was in the transmission.

The 920 was a "5F/1R", i.e 5 forward, 1 reverse"
The 922 was "5F/1Rx3" or 15 forward, 3 reverse.

As with many peripheral equipment manufacturers or products, it is difficult to research data on the use of Ruckstell differentials for use in a limited run of trucks (300) in 1939-40.

Yes, CCKW352 models - shorter and with 2 spare wheels behind the cab.
There were supposed to tow the 105mm howitzer, as you can see there.
