The M4A1 cart with M1917A1 machine gun are mentioned in this link as a weapon of US glider infantry.

For the first time outside of the ZI this set of cart/gun in glider transportation was tested during Sicilian manoeuvres between Comiso and Ponte Olivo airfields in 1943.

used as a flotation device for personnel in water

Worn incorrectly in the image it should be higher almost under the Armpits

2X CO2 capsules were used to inflate or a tube by breathing into it

Well this soldiers bag is an M4 Gas Mask bag, typically the mask thrown away and the bag used as a holdall from everything from shaving gear to grenades to Calvados

the storage tubes in his right arm look to be for M9A1 Rifle grenades

the longer tube looks to be for the 2.36 inch Bazooka rocket

He also has a Bandolier of M1 Garand Enbloc clips
