I agree that the US home front had very good morale at the end of the war, particularly compared to European allies whose home front had suffered much more for much longer.
The 'sick of war' sentiments could be in the context of there not being the political will to start a new a war against the Soviet Union. Stalin was as bad and in some ways worse than Hitler, and don't forget that the reason Britain declared war on Germany was because Germany invaded Poland, but then the Soviets invaded Poland and the politicians said next to nothing. Some victory, when the reason for declaring war was the invasion of Poland and then to declare victory while Poland is still occupied!
