luftstalag inmates; US airmen

my roommate's grandfather was shot down in ww2 and stayed at a dulag or luftstalag for a time; cannot find him; wish for HELP!! His last name was Carden and he was a turret gunner (staff sgt.) nicknamed "lofty". Sure would appreciate any/all help in finding info; an apparent fire wiped out many records in 1973 and am stuck.
