Patch was in the theater training his division while Eichelberger hadn't even reached the US Coast yet :)

To all,

LTG Patch died of pneumonia IIRC right after the war ended in Europe, he was in poor health for years. All from memory. Died 21 November 1945.

Not mentioned yet (perhaps for good reason) is Brereton.

Patch has several sickness crisis in his life. It's difficult to tell how serious they are and whether they impact his operational commands. For example,, gets penumonia (afair) when he reaches France with the AEF in 1917 and that's probably why he serves in a training school thereafter. In early 1942, he gets sick on his way to New Caledonia in early 1942, but recovers and doctors confirm his assignment. He does not seem to get specially sick when he fights in Guadalcanal.

The final illness that kills him in November 1945 is not a long-lasting, recurrrent problem but an acute attack of pneumonia. He goes from "fine and healthy" to death in something like 2 weeks.

I found another example: Robert L. Spragins.
Chief of Staff of Patch at XIV Corps in Guadalcanal. Later commander of 44 ID in France, Aug-Dec 1944.
