This is the naval version of the 50 caliber M 2 watercooled AA machine gun. It differed from the army version by having a thicker water jacket and being connected to a ship powered cooling water system. It is mounted on a Naval mount Mark 3 and is shown here on a 4 stack WW I built US destroyer. From the presence of the British sailors between the stacks indicates that this one of the ships transferred to the British in 1940.

It's a ground pattern .30 M1917 M35 mount with the gun fixed to an extender attached to the normal rear mounting point. the cradle mount is at 90 deg from normal ground use

An .50 (12.7mm) caliber machinegun on an .30 M1917 machinegun mount ?? 8O
I guess it would not be very stable, is it not??
Was this mount used by US Army ?? or only an export model ??

Several US gun cradles were capable of handling either weapon.

D38579 PINTLE ASSEMBLY

D36960 CRADLE, PINTLE AND AMMUNITION BOX ASSEMBLY

D40733 CRADLE AND PINTLE ASSEMBLY

D68880 (7068880) CRADLE AND PINTLE ASSEMBLY

D70627 CRADLE AND PINTLE ASSEMBLY

7069693 cradle and pintle assembly (Used on LVT's)

as an expedient AA mount it isnt expected to be as steady as a gun fixed at trunnion and bottom plate with a T&E Mechanism attached. Its basically a "Free gun to engage moving targets.

Stability depends on the tripod being properly set up and sandbagged
