The essential USA reader for WW2?

I recall John Keegan did something along the lines of the Essential books of WW2 and of course I believe they were mostly all British/BCE. etc.
It may have been his he Battle for History: Refighting World War Two.

Has anyone done similar for the USA? Detailing the older immediate postwar classics, usually memoirs, plus new Gen. secondary studies and memories in the past 20-30 years?

For example, it was inevitable that MacDonald's Company Commander, Sledge's with The Old Breed, O'Kane's Clear the Bridge, etc. plus I do not know what newer memories would qualify.

Then secondary studies as in Weigley's Eisenshower's Lieutenants. Plus add your candidates.
