I don't have a specific answer but they would have had small arms sufficient to arm ships' company for any purpose they would have for armed parties. Security guards would have .45 cal. pistols in the USN.
Very similar layout by class (but not automatically identical), different by classes. Was the floor plan of ever carrier idenitical?

Re: What Small Arms were stored on Aircraft Carriers?
I have no idea on quantity, but during WW II there would have been 45 m 1911 pistols, M1903/M1 Garand rifles, 45 caliber Reising Model 50 or Thompson M1928 or M1 sub machine guns, BrownAutomatic Rifles M 1918, and 30 caliber M 1919a4 Light Machine Guns. In addition the air wing had 38 caliber revolvers for the aircrewmen.

Re: What Small Arms were stored on Aircraft Carriers?
The 1911A semiautomatic was .45 cal. The aircrew revolvers were .38 caliber, five or six shot. Getting those details right is important for credibility. (And now someone will come along to correct me on this. )

So my next question....
What would the weapon storage area be like? Solid walls or chain link fence for the walls of the weapon locker?
If you had the chance to use a ROV with string like hands that could be used to extract "artifacts" from say the U.S.S Hornet, would you?

As originally designed, not as many as you would think. The 1941 specifications for the Essex class included
100 M1903 rifles, 300 M1911 Pistols, 10 BAR and 8 Lewis guns.

The weapons to be used by the Naval personnel would be stored in a central armory with sold walls, those belonging to the Marine Detachment(present on all US major warships) would have had their weapons stored in locked racks in their quarters. I believe the aircrew pistols would be stored and issued with the aircrew survival equipment.

Given that the CVs seldom traveled unescorted the amount of small arms is reasonable, verging on generous.

Sounds right. The air crew would not have kept the revolvers in their personal gear.ROLAND1369 wrote: ↑24 Sep 2019, 16:18The weapons to be used by the Naval personnel would be stored in a central armory with sold walls, those belonging to the Marine Detachment(present on all US major warships) would have had their weapons stored in locked racks in their quarters.
