Communication Zone Troop list?
Good day,
Does somebody know the Troop list for a Communication Zone(COMMZ).
What i mean is which units are assigned to the COMMZ
for 1918 and 1945.
Is the a list and where to find it.
Are there orginal docs about it?
Sorry for my bad english.
With Regards,
Kay

Re: Communication Zone Troop list?
A "communications zone" type of organization existed to provide the services of supply in a forward area, and so was designed to be very mission and task-oriented, and how it was set up depended greatly on the theater. The Comm Z functions and needs in France in 1944-45 would have been different than that in Burma, for example.
Here's a place to start:
https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/US ... ml#page288
at the high point, April of 1945, there were 3,059,000 US Army troops in the ETO; of those 1,613,004 with the field forces, 482,785 with the air forces; 652,779 with Comm Z; 128,305 "non-operational" (mostly hospitalized); and 183,096 ground forces replacements. Comm Z functions included headquarters (including G-1 through G-5), as well as the Adjutant General, army exchange service, chemical warfare, chaplain, claims, engineer, fiscal, general purchasing agent, Judge Advocate, ordnance, Provost Marshal, public relations, quartermaster, signal, special and information service, surgeon, transportation, and control. So, 650,000 service forces supporting 1.6 million ground, 480,000 air, 128,000 in hospital, etc., and 183,000 replacements in theater (2.4 million total, roughly) plus various levels of support to the French military and civilian population, as well as civil affairs support in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, etc.
Doesn't really seem extreme.
and a specific source for the Normandy Base Section Communication Zone, European Theater of Operations:

Re: Communication Zone Troop list?
To add depth to a study of the COM-Z take a long look at 'Army Service Forces' Organized in 1942 as part of the rationalization of the Army organization the ASF were one leg of the organizational triad. The other two being Army Air Forces and Army Ground Forces. ASF was primarily deployed in the continental US for mobilizing ground and air forces, it did have some connection to supporting forces overseas.
USN port operations and other non fleet units were not usually part of COM-Z, but were closely related in the overall support operations.

Re: Communication Zone Troop list?
Thanks daveshoup2MD and Carl Schwamberger,
To come back to the COMMZ,the Army Service Forces
are known to me in great lines.
Before the war and after the army used the "Type Corps and Army" as standart..
It was used as planning methods.
I think there was also a type COMMZ Listing al the units in the Commz and the strenght of each and total strenght.
I know there is type Commz for planning work
It is maby in FM 101-10-3: Organizational, Technical and Logistical Data Extracts, Secret.
Thanks
With Regards,
Kay
