Development Of Siegfried Line Tactics: September 1944 To 1945

The following reports describe the evolution and variety of tactics used by the US Army infantry, artillery and armored units to overcome the German Army defenses, especially the pillboxes, located in the Siegfried Line starting in September 1944. The reports include descriptions of the pillboxes and tactics the German units used to resist the advance.

The majority of the reports were printed in the October 5, 1944 issue of the US Army publication ‘Battle Experiences’ and formed one large report dedicated to this subject.

I’m posting these reports in order of their publication date in order to show the tactic development process. Therefore some of the methods listed in the first reports will be refined or superseded by other methods listed in the later ones.

I have posted some of these reports in other topics on this site and have posted them again in this topic in order to group all of the information about this facet of the campaign in one location.

FYI, I love what you're doing. I'd ask that you transcribe all of these into chapters and put them into a book, just to ensure they're fully preserved in history.
