Development Of US Army Street Fighting Tactics: Northwest Europe 1944 & 1945

Post by Richard Stone » 10 Jan 2021 23:59

The following reports describe the evolution and variety of street fighting tactics used by the US Army infantry and armored units when fighting in towns and cities.

I’m posting these reports in order of their publication date in order to show the tactic development process. The first series of reports discuss the fighting in Brest.

I have posted some of these reports in other topics on this site and have posted them again in this topic in order to group all of the information about this facet of the campaign in one location.

All of the reports were collected from the US Army publication ‘Battle Experiences’. The publication date of each report is listed in the attachment title.

The text obscured by the ‘Declassified’ stamp can be read by enlarging the attachment.

The first attached report describes the street fighting tactics used by the US Army infantry and armored units during the fighting in Aachen.

The following report discusses the village and street fighting methods used by armored units, specifically the 70th Tank Battalion. I posted this report in another topic on this site and have posted it again to group all of the information about this tactic and facet of the 1944/1945 European campaign in one location.

All of the reports were collected from the US Army publication ‘Battle Experiences’. The publication date of each report is listed in the attachment title.
