Hi
I found informations about Austrian Battalion in US Army - how many soldiers were in this unit? did they, after dissolved of the battalion, fought in line units?

http://www.indianamilitary.org/Camp%20A ... n%20BN.htm

there is also this sentence:
"An Austrian battalion would attend the country’s liberation in May 1945, but it was one organized under French auspices. "

was there an Austrian unit under french command ?

1er Bataillon de Volontaires Autrichiens raised in Riom may 1945 sent to Austria and disbanded in december 1945

Yugoslavia had more, 5 battalions Österreichische Freiheitsbataillon and Great Britain a planned aborted unit

SHAEF/Eisenhower restricted & discouraged the recruiting from the German PW. Patch, probably with Devers support allowed the OSS group supporting 7th Army to violate that policy and a few German PW were integrated into OSS teams and entered Germany. Re; Preisco 'Penetrating the Reich'. My guess is the French had no interest in SHAEF policy and violated it as well.
