Can somebody tell me which American unit was located in the woods 4 km east of Bastogne-Braas on 04.01.1945?

Thanks in advance,

Timo,

I cannot find out for sure as that area was apparently still behind German lines at that time. However, I would suggest that it may have been elements of the US 26 Inf. Div. which was attacking northward from Buderscheid area toward Roulingen - hill 490 area, which is about 8 km east-south-east of Bras.

Seems like you hit the nail on the head JC. Too bad its not a quiz (no new BMW for you, sorry ;) ) Do you know/have any accounts of this attack? I am trying to locate the American unit that clashed with KG Knittel that day.

Regards,
Timo

No, unfortunately I have no unpublished accounts of this operation, I was just working from secondary sources.
