Commando

Post by yantaylor » 11 Jun 2018, 20:51

Hi everyone

I have been asked by a few of my family to find any info I can about my uncle Peter, he was the hero of the family and was a commando in WW2

I know he won the MM at Dieppe and took part in the Normandy landings, but that is it. I have no idea if he took part in the battle for Walcheren island or any other scrap which involved the commandos

I do have his number though and the unit he served when he won his MM;

Lance Sergeant Peter Francis McCarthy 3775704, C Troop No 4 Commando

Can anybody help?

Regards
Yan

Are you aware of this website ?

http://www.commandoveterans.org/4Commando

His name appears on the nominal roll for No 4 Commando here

Do you have his service records ?

https://www.gov.uk/government/collectio ... ce-records

Good hunting !

Thanks Richie.

I don't have any records of him, that is the problem, I last saw him in 1982 at my fathers funeral.
I am not sure if he stayed with 4 commando through out the war or transferred to another commando.

Regards
Ian.

His service record from MOD should show his unit history.

Ritchie, I have tried the 4 cdo web site, but when I joined their forum my computer warned me that their site was not secure, so I logged off.
