Good morning all,

Article about Aboriginal "diggers".

Note the narrative's "Horn Island was the base for Australia's most northerly airstrip".

An interesting article as far as it went. I would have liked to see greater detail on the unit though. From memory, they would have come under 10th. Division (AIF) which had an AA Regiment stationed on the islands. The article is wrong in saying that they were the only native Battalion in the Australian army. The Papuan Infantry Battalion did extraordinary service in New Guinea against the Japanese. Alas, we never hear anything about them.
