Or how about just 7 Armd Div and 4 Armd Bde? The latter was under command of the former for the first week or so of September 1944 so probably covered the same approximate distance and met the same approximate opposition?

For example,
7 Armoured Division

Note: P=fit; Q=out of action, repairable in 24 hrs; R=battle casualty of last 24 hrs, not repairable in 24 hrs.

7 Armd Div – 1 Sep 44
22 Armd Bde:
Sherman 17pdr: P 29, Q 4, R 5; Cromwell 75mm: P 108, Q 11, R 5; Cromwell 95mm: P 12, Q 1, R -; Stuart 37mm: P 12, Q 3, R -.
8 Hussars:
Cromwell 75mm: P 48, Q 1, R 1; Cromwell 95mm: P 6, Q - , R - ; Challenger 17pdr: P 5, Q 1, R 1; Stuart 37mm: P 5, Q -, R -.

Fwd Del Sqn: No information.

4 Armd Bde – 1 Sep 44
Sherman 75mm: P 130, Q 10, R 2; Sherman 17 pdr: P 30, Q 4, R – ; Stuart 37mm: P 17, Q -, R -.

Fwd Del Sqn:
Sherman 75mm: P 5, Q 5, R 6; Sherman 17 pdr: P 1, Q 2, R – ; Stuart 37mm: P 3, Q -, R 5.
By the way, if anyone wants the original photos just PM me and we'll sort something out.

Regards

Tom

Tom,

Thanks for posting those, wished I'd seem some of those figures way back when.

Now, a query from the front; where are all the Stuarts? 22nd Armd Bde has a total of 15and 4th Armd Bde 17, with both fmns having a Unit Entitlement of 33. Is this report showing a differentiation between Stuarts still with their 37-mm main gun, and those modified to 'sawn-off' types, less turret?

Gary,

As you can see I've started posting the tank states in a separate thread so they are easier for people to find in the future.

I'm afraid the tank state form does not split out the Stuarts - it looks like a pre-printed form and there is just a column marked STUART 37mm.

Incidentally on 29 Aug it records 5 Armd Bde having 42 Stuarts (all P = fit), 29 Armd Bde having 18 P and 2 Q (fit in 24 hrs).

Regards

Tom

The PATTON MUSEUM at Ft. Knox, KY has access to and possible plans to display of the Zielgerat 1221 IR Aiming and Driving scope. Scope came from a US VET, who returned at the end of WWII with it and just came to light of day in approx. 2012.
